Inspired by Darwin Wiggett`s blog post, I made a list of favorite photos from 2009. This may not be everyone`s favorites, but the ones I think are most expressive, shows the wonders of nature or the ones accomplished by efforts and careful planning. Hope you enjoy them and I would love to hear which of these you think is the favorite of yours.

- Huk. February 2009. That month, Oslo City area, had one of the most massive snowfalls during 24 hrs. in decades. Many places around Oslo Fjord looked like something from the Arctic. On this foggy afternoon, the impression of light was enhanced by all the ice and snow.

.
- The base of Rondvasshøgdi Mountain in Rondane Nasjonalpark. March 2009. I was on a mountain trek and one of the mornings the light was flickering through the clouds driven by the wind.
.
.
- Asdøljuvet Gorge. October 2009. By visiting this gorge as often as possible in October, I was fortunate to wait in dripping rain before shooting this location at the color peak of autumn foliage.
.
.
- Dørålen in Rondane Nasjonalpark. October 2009. One of the most visited parts of Rondane, known for it`s awesome autumn colors in front of a landscape of mountains. I was blessed to experience what I hoped for; first snow on the mountains while the autumn birches still were full of gold.

- Skårer. December 2009. This was shot a 5 min. walk from our house. It was an inviting -20 degrees Celsius morning and as the sun came over the horizon a gathering of frosted, sidelit trees became focus of attention. I had my camera with me, but had no idea that it actually would be useful that morning.
.
.
- Asdøljuvet Gorge. December 2009. After visiting Asdøljuvet every day for a week to see how the water chrystallized day by day, this is one of my favorites from the main waterfall. Two days earlier there was still water running and here everything has turned to solid ice. This may be my favorite December photo.
.
.
- Alnabru. June 2009. Backlit by the rising sun and by using a tiny mirror (size of a finger nail) I reflected light onto this damsel fly. Before the sun rises, damsel flies often sits one place and wait for the sun to dry off their wet wings after a moist summers night. It required a lot of work just to get a good angle, not to scare the damsel fly (..too much) and to nail the exposure. All along, the damsel fly watched me with one eye hidden behind the grass.
.
.
- View from Sohlbergplassen towards Rondane Nasjonalpark. October 2009. As the wind brought all sorts of clouds in different shapes, I waited to see if something special would happen over the mountains. I particularly like these mountains due to their pyramidical shapes. As these clouds “clicked” into place I was fortunate to have a minute of light on the mountains which was critical to make a successful photo of this unique moment.
.
.
- Rondvassbu in Rondane Nasjonalpark. March 2009. Landscape photography requires a lot of work from the photographer, but without the luck to be at the right place at the right time, where would we be? Standing on a hill waiting for good light, I accidentally turned around and saw two skiers approach this frozen lake called Rondvatnet. As I knew where they would make a good element for showing the scale of the landscape, I set up my camera and waited for their arrival at the point where I wanted them to be in the photo. During the time I waited, the sky opened up and revealed another mountain in the distance…it was really like magic and the light present just before they started to ski downhill made this my favorite b&w photo from central Rondane Nasjonalpark.
When the moments are revealed, I never think about what there is to achieve, or if I can achieve anything at all. I just do my best to make something out of it. I think we all do. Nevertheless, when reflecting back on the many, unforgettable moments it seems like if not for photography these moments would soon be all forgotten.
Hope you enjoyed my favorite photos of 2009!
Best Wishes

I like whispering wind and winter light the best followed by Haiku but every photo is a winner IMO. Darwin

goodness sk, how can you figure out your top 10 when I think 90 percent of your shots make it to the 10 of my list:)
i love the ‘haiku’ one. the minimalist colors and the richness of the white lines and textures reminds me of a sheep dog or the rug with long hair. you’ve captured the colors so beautifully.
stay warm.
Hello Sam.
Thanks for your well chosen and thoughtful words, Sam
Well, there are actually some others as well, photos that haven`t been shown on the internet before.
But, dilemmas leads to headache and I made a simple choice without much thinking. More on instinct.
Stay warm as well, dear.

Great to see your picks for the year ’09.
It was certainly a great year with amazing light from the subarctic regions of Norway and I enjoyed the journey you took us on with.
You asked for favorites and here they are… ‘Arctic Light’ and ‘Haiku’, both for their fantastic warm light and amazing diversity in shapes and patterns. But it was a close call and all are definitely winners in my book.
Hope I can make it up your way sometime this year.
Happy shooting my friend and keep up the fantastic work!
Best,
David

I am so glad you did this SK. It not only gives us more insight into what a beautiful place you live in, but helps us share in the stories and memories you had over last year.
Time dimensions is a favorite of mine – what a wonderful group of elements coming together all for a unique moment.
Of course that probably applies to each of these, but something about that image speaks to the uniqueness of that moment.
All of them are wonderful.
Hi Mark.
Time Dimensions is one of those unique moments, I am sure we all know, that happens unexpectedly and will probably not happen again.
I am glad you liked it, Mark

Winter Light is a very powerful photograph for me. I avoid people in such compositions myself but you were correct in the effect of scale it has in the photograph. Without that reference I think the mountains would be much more diminutive in perception. Cutting the tops off adds to sense of largeness also. Excellent photograph.
Hi Todd.
Thank you very much.
I think this is the only photograph in my print collection that has people in it.
And I agree with you; without the skiers this kind of composition has less effect on the viewer.
I did shoot one after the skiers had disappeared beneath the edge of the hill and the choice was clear.
I am glad you liked it, Todd.

Hi Seung,
I saw your flickr link to your top ten.
The whole set is really inspiring. I do love ‘Winter Light’ but all of your images have a ‘bigger picture’ to them that appeals to me greatly. Om Ah Hung. Congratulations, I am jealous of what you have witnessed and created
Hi Joe.
It is very inspring to read your comment and you make me want to be up in the mountains, enjoying the light, the smells, the sounds and the unexpected turns that nature takes every time.

I love you insect shot! The damsel fly is gorgeous. I also love all of your mountain shots! They make me really sad to have so few mountains here in Las Vegas!
Hello Chris.
It was whole lotta fun shooting that morning.
…you can read more about it here.
I really had some laughs on behalf of the damsel fly`s behavior as well.
And, when I did, I realized it was not the first time I presented myself to the world as a lunatic
Las Vegas, I belive there are many fascinating locations in Nevada. I have never been there, but man, how television has helped me make my own thoughts on how that great-looking place must be like.
Thank you, Chris.
Very much appreciated your comment.
